Neuropsychological Assessment

Our clinic provides neuropsychological assessment services. This means we use specialized tests to measure the effects of health conditions on a person’s cognition or behavior. Similar to how a CT or MRI scan can show what the brain looks like, a neuropsychological evaluation will rather show how the brain is functioning. Neuropsychological evaluation is a primary method for assessing cognitive function and is recognized by the American Psychological Association and the American Academy of Neurology for this purpose.

Common reasons for a neuropsychological assessment include:

  • Assessment of patient reported cognitive or memory changes.
  • Assistance with differential diagnosis of dementia, mild cognitive impairment, and normal cognitive aging in older adults.
  • Assessment of cognitive/behavioral symptoms of primary medical conditions (e.g., cardiovascular disease, cancer, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, sleep disorders, etc.) and personalized recommendations for coping with these changes in a way that maximizes function and independence.
  • Assessment of cognitive recovery after an injury (e.g., concussion, traumatic brain injury, stroke) to inform return to work, school, or athletic activity.
  • Assessment of cognitive factors impacting medical adherence.
  • Psychological clearance for medical procedures (e.g., spinal cord stimulator, intrathecal pain pump, bariatric surgery, organ transplant).
